Some examples of restoration projects in my studio
This C16th century panel painting had many damaged areas and losses of paint, particularly where the 3 panels had been joined together.
The photo on the right shows the losses having been carefully in-painted with pigments in conservation resin.
Great attention is taken to only apply paint where there are losses, and not over any original paint areas.
This C17th century painting by the artist Mary Beale had an old and very yellowed varnish .
The surface of the painting was gently cleaned and the old varnish carefully removed . Then a new, non -yellowing varnish was applied .
This fabulous painting of Sir Thomas Dallison painted by Paul van Somer c.1620 had centuries of dirt and perished varnish layers hiding the exquisite colours of the costume.
Over several days the old varnish layers were gradually removed to reveal the full glory of Sir Thomas’s scarlet costume.
